As a stationer in a world of whites and ivories, when Paper & Honey bride Megan requested navy stock to complement her Cape Cod wedding invitation suite, I wanted to shout from the Massachusetts rooftops. “You are beautiful AND brilliant!!” I would have declared. Instead I probably said something super chill like, “Sure.”
(Just kidding. Really trying to downplay my use of exclamation points, here.)
This suite was just such a dang pleasure for me to work on. Michigan is the home of the Great Lakes, sure, but “nautical” is one of the last words or phrases I’d use to describe myself, right up there with “blonde” and “really enjoys confrontation.” But a Chatham Bars Inn wedding on the shores of Cape Cod Bay requires something special, and the ideas Megan and Gavin came up with did not disappoint. So I put on my captain’s hat and got to work.

I had the honor of getting this suite featured in Oh So Beautiful Paper this fall, so I’ll let September-Laura do the talking.
Working on Megan and Gavin’s Cape Cod wedding suite was a complete joy. With the current trends leaning towards lots of blush, greenery, and light, feminine details, it was so much fun to break out of that a bit and play with rich colored paper for an oceanside soiree.
Together with her wedding planner, Jamie from Cape Cod Celebrations, Megan described her wedding as a “romantic beach wedding with a touch of prep.” The perfect event to close out the summer! We worked with a color palette of deep navy, crisp whites, and the loveliest gold. The invitation and information card were stamped with white and gold foils, the RSVP card was letterpress printed and gold foil stamped. All pieces were delivered to guests in an envelope crisp with hand calligraphed addresses, gold envelope liners, and vintage postage stamps.
As an accountant living in Chicago, Megan loves to mix the preppy and traditional with modern new trends. She is a huge fan of bold, beautiful calligraphy, and wanted to scrap traditional wording etiquette in favor of a large and in charge hand lettered “Megan & Gavin.” We took this element and used it in the invitation and custom address rubber stamp, and even throughout their reception stationery via menus and wooden welcome signage.
While their Cape Cod wedding was held at the Chatham Bars Inn, Megan didn’t want her suite to get too kitschy and nautical. We kept it simple with the color palette and use of bold stripes on several cards, as well as a navy and white striped ribbon to hold everything together. We were able to have some fun with the lobster bake rehearsal dinner invitation by including the littlest gold foil lobster! This tiny crustacean detail brought some amusement for an otherwise gorgeously preppy suite, and it just might be my favorite part of Megan and Gavin’s wedding invitation.
Current-Laura here. Please note the gold foil lobster. I repeat: gold foil lobster. Sometimes I’m thankful that I work remotely with my clients via email. At least then they can’t hear me giggling like a crazy woman when I’m drawing tiny pincers and imagining them stamped in the most romantic gold foil on M&G’s rehearsal dinner card. (They had a lobster bake, because of course. I have no chill about how cool / funny / hahaha-look-at-that-lil-lobster I find this.)
Also, PS. We repurposed that lobster on lobster-bake bibs for guests to wear during the rehearsal dinner. They read “He’s her lobster.” I KNOW. OMG.
