Today’s post is extra special. Not only is it sharing the story of an especially lovely #paperandhoneybride and groom, but it’s celebrating their one year anniversary as well!
Katie is hands-down one of the sweetest sweetheart women I have ever met, let alone had the pleasure of working with. She exudes grace and kindness. She is generous with words of both admiration and affirmation. She has the biggest heart. Her love for Chris was apparent in the way she spoke of him, even just through emails. This is a girl who could. not. wait. to be married — and what a beautiful, life-giving marriage it’s going to be.
After her save the dates were in the mail and it was time to focus on their invitation suite, Katie fell in love with a suite created for a styled shoot a couple of years back. I adored this whimsical, oversized lettering style and was so excited to customize it to fit Katie and Chris’ vision by updating the color scheme and adding greenery. The end result is both romantic and a bit playful, with gold foil adding a smart metallic shine.
Between gorgeous images by Amanda Dumouchelle, keep reading their interview below — and be sure not to skip over their one-of-a-kind, decade-in-the-making love story.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Our wedding day was so magical from start to finish. We both always dreamed of a winter wedding and having it in December was just the most “cheery” feeling. Everyone was in the spirit. Our venue Lovett Hall couldn’t be more dreamy and the love that surrounded us was so overwhelming. Our hearts were bursting with love the entire day. Our two favourite moments in particular were our first look and our vows! The first look moment was so special in every way. I felt like such a princess walking up the classic Henry Ford staircase to my handsome groom! Having that intimate moment just us two was one that we will never forget. The joy on both of our faces. It was a day we had both been dreaming up for 10 years. I couldn’t wait to squeeze hug him (Chris gives the best hugs, EVER). And writing our vows was something that we were both excited to do and it couldn’t have been more meaningful! I wanted Chris to know just how amazing he is, not just that day but everyday and that our love story is and always will be our favourite. I adore him and I was so happy to be able to shout that from the rooftops! We still read our vows to each other and will never stop!
Why was stationery an important role in your wedding planning?
Stationery was such an important piece of our wedding. I’m in love with “pretty things” and I am also “all about the details.” Knowing that our stationery was something that we would treasure forever I wanted it to represent us as a couple and have timeless touches so that we would love it always (and we will).
How did you feel about your stationery after you had it in your hands?
When we opened our stationery for the first time we were blown away! We were smiling from ear to ear! Not only was it so aesthetically pleasing to the eye but it also felt so amazing in our hands. Every detail complemented the next. Seeing our names and wedding date in the most beautifully done way EVER made everything feel so real for us. It meant so much for it represent us and our style and it really set the tone for our entire day. It was GORGEOUS!
What kind of feedback did you receive from your wedding guests?
Our wedding guests were equally as blown away by our stationery. It photographed beautifully. Every piece of stationery Laura made for us still lives on our mantle and in our hearts! We still get compliments daily from friends and family when they walk in the door. We couldn’t have been happier with how custom the experience was.
What’s the story behind “The Bubs”? 🙂
December 3rd was the fairy tale I have always dreamed of. This love story starts back in high school exactly nine years ago. I knew from the moment I met Chris that he was special and I was going to have to do something great to win over his heart. Valentine’s Day was quickly approaching and I wanted to do something different, something that showed him how much I truly cared about him. At this time I was stumped for ideas. We both didn’t even go to the same high school. How was I going to pull off a surprise without him knowing? Thankfully I had a great group of girlfriends that helped me think of a unique idea. We were going to sneak into his high school the day before Valentine’s Day and completely transform his locker.
To his surprise the next day Chris walked into school with his locker reading HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY CHRIS GREGG. He opened his locker to balloons, streamers and his favorite cologne. This really got the school talking. Who is this girl that mysteriously came into our school and did this for Chris? But it worked!! It wasn’t long after that day that Chris and I officially started dating. From that day forward he took over the romantic gestures…
Fast forward to almost eight years later: Chris and I were spending my 24th birthday together in California. Little did I know that this time it was him that had a surprise of his own. Half way through our trip we found ourselves in Napa Valley standing atop the most beautiful castle. This castle was placed on the most picturesque vineyard in the valley. While I was soaking in the views and thinking to myself how lucky am I to spend this moment with my bub it was here that he caught me by surprise and asked me to be his wife. It was the moment I had dreamed of ever since I was a little girl and I couldn’t be happier.
Although we met so young in life I would never change a thing about our love story. Chris is the most wonderful human being I’ve ever met. I feel so lucky to be marrying not only my high school sweetheart but also my best friend. We share the same passions, values and love for life. There isn’t a day that goes by where he doesn’t go out of his way to make me smile. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and I couldn’t be happier to me married to my best friend in the world.
Did you take a honeymoon? Was it amazing?
We are leaving for our honeymoon now!! We always wanted to travel to England around Christmas so thought what a better time to do it then our one year anniversary. We will be spending a few days on London (our favourite city ever) and then travelling the countryside (our dream). Hoping it’s just like our favourite movie “The Holiday” (except I already have my Jude Law). I’m in love with anything quintessentially British!
What’s next for you two? Travel? Work promotions? DIY projects?
We are both settling into our new careers and enjoying spending time with our bundle of joy mini golden doodle Hank! We plan on continuing to spoil the heck out of him and hoping to also add to our little bub family in the near future.
Are there any fun facts we should know about you and / or your honey?
Chris and I were high school sweethearts and all of our friends call us “the bubs.” We share the same passion for travel, good food and party planning for our friends and family!
Where do you and Chris see yourselves when you’re old and grey? What do you want your marriage and your life together to have looked like?
When we are old and grey I still picture us as the best of friends. We enjoy each others company more than anything. We both agree that we want our marriage to be full of love, laughter, friends, family, kids and puppy cuddles ! We hope to keep working hard so we eventually can check even more destinations off our bucket list together.
